The naughty cat is drinking the hedgehogs milk.

Oh dear, that naughty cat from the farm next door has been drinking the milk I leave out for the hedgehogs again.
I do not know what to do because as you know I love all the little creatures on this planet and I want them all to be happy. The problem I have is that I want my hedgehogs to have enough milk to drink and not be faced with an empty bowl in the mornings. I know they are afraid of the cat as every time they peep out from under the bush and see him sitting there on my doorstep next to the bowl, they roll up in little  prickly balls to protect themselves from him. I must ask Doodle to invent something made of wood to keep the milk safe, maybe something only the hedgehogs can get into that is too small for the cat.  If anybody can give Doodle any ideas for a safe cat friendly/keep away naughty cat contraption then please let me know and I will tell him.
Awaiting your replies with your brilliant ideas .

Sherbet is dreaming about food

Ah, how lovely it is to just flop down here in these beautiful leaves . I have been working all day in my garden and I am completely worn out . If you look closely at my eyes you will see that they look a little bit creepy like I have been abducted by Aliens again but I can assure you that I have not.  I am safe and sound in my very own garden here at Clover Cottage . The sun is shining on me , the birds are tweeting at me , the bees are buzzing around me , the snails are avoiding me and I can hear my hedgehogs rustling in the hedge behind me . In a little while I will get up and give the dear little creatures  a delicious saucer of milk, I mean the milk is delicious not the saucer !  Oh dear I must remember to write my English a little bit better, I do not want to confuse my readers , I would hate them to think that I am silly enough to describe a saucer as delicious. I know that sometimes my food is so delicious that I want to lick the plate but it is not the plate that is scrumptious , it is the scrummy saucy bits left on it that are too small and runny to put on my fork. Yummmm, I am just remembering Pearl's home made, crusty bread, it would be the perfect thing to wipe all of that scrummy yummyness up with . Ah I am really dreaming here because I am looking around me from my nest of leaves and there is not a plate of food in sight. If I close my eyes for a little while I may be able to conjure up a dream full of my favourite food . What a good idea!    Love from Sherbetx

Sherbet gives thanks to Saint Francis

Hello again dear dear friends from nearby and far far away .
I must let you all know that I finally found my way out of the forest . I had climbed a very tall tree  to take a look inside a blackbird's nest and while I was there, even though I was a little bit entangled in the dense leaves and branches,  I was able to look way into the distance. Guess what I saw peeping out from behind a group of rolling hills?
YES, it was Clover Cottage !  Thank goodness I had finally seen which direction to walk in.
Anyway I was very grateful to be home and to see that all was well in my garden.
Today I  have come to visit this little statue of my favourite Saint in the whole wide world,  Saint Francis of Assisi.
. I came to give thanks to him for taking care of all the little creatures in my garden while I was away lost in the forest.
My hedgehogs, my frogs, my caterpillars, my snails and my birds are all healthy and happy and I am very grateful for that.

All is well at Clover Cottage

What a nice restful day I am having.   I have had a walk around my garden and checked on  my plants and all of the little creatures.  I am happy to tell you that they are all very well indeed.  The blackbirds are singing in the oak tree, the hedgehogs are sleeping peacefully under the bush, the caterpillars are hiding in the cabbage patch and the frogs are happy, croaking  in the pond.   All is well and peaceful at Clover Cottage.  Love from Sherbetx

Sherbet is feeling truly blessed

Ah, it is a little bit cooler today but the sun is still shining so I am making the most of the lovely weather and I am sitting out in my garden.  Oh how lovely to just sit here and relax.  The birds are singing all around my ears and  I can hear the hedgehogs rustling happily in the leaves around my compost heap.  I think I can even hear the naughty slugs munching on my lettuce!   Oh what a joy to be alive and to feel happy and  healthy and to have so many little creatures sharing my garden with me.  I am truly blessed and I am wishing that millions of true blessings fly through the air and reach all of my friends both nearby and far far away.  Love from Sherbetx

Sherbet is working hard in his garden today

Rainbow coloured blessings to my dear friends both near and far far away.
Well, as you can imagine,  my  garden has suffered a little bit while I have been away.  My dear, helpful friends Pearl and Doodle have been busy and not been able to tend to many garden tasks at Clover Cottage.  Little Mango was here living in his watering can as usual and watching the garden, he is a very helpful little mouse indeed but he is so little that he cannot do big, tiring tasks.
Anyway,  here I am today working hard in my garden, the grass needs cutting, the weeds need pulling out, the hedgehogs need their milk, the birds are waiting in the trees for their breadcrumbs and my vegetables and flowers and my one pink rose need watering .  As you can see, I am a very busy Sherbet sheep indeed, so please excuse me for not writing lots and lots today.  Love from Sherbetx

Oh dear, Sherbet has a little bit of a shock this morning!

Here I am again.
Oh my goodness I have something to tell you.  I had a little bit of a shock this morning.
I had just been  outside to fill up the hedgehogs bowls with milk as I always do every morning,  and when I went out  ten minutes later to start my garden tasks guess what I saw ?
There sitting right in one of the bowls of milk, was a very huge, knobbly skinned bullfrog.  I jumped back with surprise as I certainly did not expect to see him in there.  What a very naughty bullfrog indeed !  He was not a usual visitor to my garden, all my own frogs live in my pond and I know all of their names.
I imagine he must have been hungry but I did not know that bullfrogs drank milk !  Well maybe they don't but my other thought was,.... Oh dear,  I hope he or rather she,  is not laying eggs in  my hedgehogs milk !!!  Then I thought if it is a BULL frog can it be a  SHE, because I thought bull named things were boys, like cows are, well not cows but bulls !!!!  Oh dear , now  I was getting very muddled up indeed!  The problem was,  that made me a little bit worried because if there were baby eggs in the milk  ( Pearl has told me they were called frog spawn)  I did not want to disturb them but on the other hand I had to make sure that the milk was all clear of eggs for my hedgehogs because I do not think they would be happy drinking bullfrog eggs for breakfast. What was I to do ? The frog had jumped away by then.
Ah yes!  A good idea came into my head and I knew what to do.  I saved the bowl of maybe egg layed in milk  and put it under the hedge and then I gave my hedgehogs a new fresh bowl of milk.
Phew, that was a big problem I had to solve this morning but all is well now so I am just sitting in my garden relaxing after my morning ordeal.  Love from Sherbetx

Sherbet has a most charming French visitor

I awoke very early this morning after a very tempting dream of rhubarb pie and custard.
I opened my kitchen door with a bottle of milk in my hand ready to fill the saucers for my hedgehogs, when I heard a strange and delicate voice. The voice said Bonjour monsieur!  I looked around me and there, coming up my garden path was a beautiful French poodle with a pink bow tied onto a pom pom on her head.
I said Bonjour to her too and asked her where she was from.  ( Luckily Pearl had taught me to speak some French)   She said she was a visitor here, all the way from Paris. She told me that she had heard of the famous Sherbet Sheep and was curious to meet him. I told her I was Sherbet Sheep and that I was absolutely delighted to make her aquaintance.  When she told me her name was Angelique, I thought she may be an angel!  I asked her to join me in my kitchen for a cup of my special tea made from the mint in my herb garden.  She told me that she found my company most charming. I was very flattered and I felt my cheeks turn a brighter shade of pink, in fact they turned nearly as pink as she was!  After a most pleasurable hour, mostly discussing French food, I might add, it was time for her to leave, so regretfully we said au revoir to each other at my garden gate.  I do hope she visits me again one day, I did so enjoy sharing a pot of mint tea with her.

Sherbet is back from his Easter Holiday

Hello everyone. I have missed you all so much over Easter,  but I am back now at Clover Cottage and I am sure I will be very busy over the next few days looking after my garden.  It looks like it has not rained much here. My grass is looking a little bit brown around the edges so the first thing I will do is find my watering can and my hose and give everything a really good sprinkle with water to revive my  flowers, my vegetables and my grass. I am grateful to know that my friends Doodle, Mango and Pearl did their best in taking care of everything but it really is such a lot of work especially when it does not rain.

I had a really wonderful time with Kathy Cat and I did indeed ride Kizzy horse through the forest. I had to cling on tightly to his ears as I did feel a very long way off the ground. I am not used to riding on a horse but Kathy Cat told me that Kizzy was a gentle old horse and would be very kind to me. I really enjoyed spending time in  Kathy Cat’s wonderful garden. I will show you some of my holiday photos. The only problem I had, was that I could not find a comfortable flower pot to sit on, they were either too big or  too small, I almost felt like Goldilocks and the 3 bears, so I just sat among the  flowers and the vegetables and even on some rocks which I must say were a little bit rough on my delicate bottom bits! Anyway I have to go now to give my hedgehogs a saucer of milk, they must be very thirsty. Love from Sherbet x

Oh, It's snowing again!

It has been such an amazing weekend and I really have to tell you that I am feeling a little bit tired after so much excitement. Today I just want to sit under my apple tree and relax. I have lots of letters to write to all of my friends from far far away to thank them all for coming to my party.

Oh dear, it has just started to snow very heavily so I cannot sit under my apple tree. I will sit in my cosy cottage instead and keep warm. I do hope the postman will be able to get through the snow to pick up my letters from the post box at the end of Wiggleway Lane. It looks like the snow is settling and may become quite deep. I would hate for his red postman's van  to get stuck in the snow.  I will have to check that the hedgehogs' milk does not freeze and I do hope the water does not freeze in the pond or the frogs will not know where to go. I do hope all the little creatures in my garden can stay warm enough in their various little nooks.  I would invite them all into my cottage during these cold days but I am afraid to tell you that lots of them are so shy that they hide up and I just cannot find them. I do so worry about all the little creatures when the snow falls.

Billy, the farmer's dog, frightens the cats away

Well, very early this morning I was woken up by a great big bark coming from my garden. I thought I was dreaming but then I remembered that Billy was out there keeping watch. Billy was barking very loudly  WOOF!  WOOF!  WOOF! So I peeped out of my kitchen window and there I saw the gang of cats running away as fast as they could. What a surprise they had seeing Billy sitting on guard by the saucers of milk.  I do not think they will be back again. Then I heard a shuffling noise and I looked around towards the vegetable garden and there I saw a happy sight, my family of hedgehogs were coming bravely towards Billy to find their breakfast. They were not afraid of Billy and just walked straight under his legs and found their milk waiting for them in the saucers.  I gave Billy a lovely big bowl of special dog biscuits to thank him for his good work and then I took him back along Wiggleway Lane back to his home with the farmer. I am so grateful that everything is back to normal, no more hungry hedgehogs.

Sherbet gets help from the farmer's dog

I have asked  Pearl what I should do to stop the cats  from stealing the milk from my poor hungry hedgehogs. Pearl said I should borrow a dog from the farmer at the end of Wiggleway Lane as cats do not like dogs and when the dog sees the cats he will bark very loudly and frighten the cats away. What a good idea that is. I went to the farmer and asked him if I could borrow his biggest, friendliest dog with the biggest bark. Of course I need a very friendly dog for the hedgehogs to feel comfortable but I also need a big bark to scare the cats away.  The farmer said  I could choose from all of his dogs. He said he had too many and he was looking for good homes for them. I told him I just wanted to borrow one for a little while to scare the naughty cats away. I looked carefully at all the dogs and the biggest friendliest one I could see was called Billy. The farmer told me that yes indeed Billy had a great big bark so I put Billy on his lead and took him back to Clover Cottage. I promised the farmer that I would  take good care of him and bring him back when the cats had stopped stealing the milk. When I got back to my garden, I introduced Billy to all the little creatures that lived there so they would not be afraid of this big hairy dog. I left Billy sitting by the saucers of milk, on guard, keeping watch. Luckily he was very well trained and I told him to SIT and STAY and not to drink the milk. He was very obedient so I went back into my cottage to have my lunch. I am very happy that  Billy is helping me to keep the naughty cats away.

Who is stealing the hedgehogs' milk?

Someone or something has been stealing the milk from the hedgehogs' saucers!! As I was going into my garden today I noticed that the saucers were empty but  my hedgehogs were hungry and waiting for their milk but I had already  given them some milk earlier this morning. Who could it be? I could see no evidence of any strangers in my garden, no strange footprints or tracks  in the mud, nothing out of the ordinary at all. So what was I to do. I had a good idea, I would ask Pearl as she is very wise and always helps me out when I do not know what to do. Pearl advised me to put out some more milk and hide behind a bush to see who comes to drink it. So, I did just that. I put out 2 saucers of milk just as I usually would for my hedgehogs and I hid behind a bushy blackberry bush and I tried to keep very still and quiet. I waited and I waited and I waited, I was just beginning to get tired of waiting when I heard some rustling leaves over by my garden fence. I looked over and guess what I saw. There, with a whole parade of cats following behind him, was the naughty cat from the farm at the end of Wiggleway lane. He had come back again to my garden and this time he had brought all of his friends with him. Oh my goodness, so many cats.  So many cats drinking the hedgehogs' milk. I saw that the hedgehogs were also watching and were afraid, they had curled up into little balls to protect themselves.
Now I have a problem, how do I stop the cats coming to drink the hedgehogs' milk ? There are so many of them, a whole gang ! I will ask  Pearl again, she will know what to do .

Some prickly hedgehogs move in to Sherbet's garden

Oh what a delight!
When I went into my garden this morning . I found  several  prickly hedgehogs waiting for me there.  I had never seen them before so I invited them to stay and live in my garden. One of them was very shy and afraid of me so he curled up in a prickly ball when he saw me  but the others were very happy to see me and started to roll around playfully . I knew they may have travelled a long way to reach my garden and may be very thirsty so I went into my kitchen and brought them out some saucers of milk. They drank the milk gratefully and then I showed them a special, cosy, leafy corner under some bushy bushes where they could live.
They loved their new home and now that I have some new little creatures living in my garden I will be sure to order more milk from the milkman every day. I have given them names. I call them Helly Hedgehog, Henry Hedgehog, Hannah Hedgehog and Herbie Hedgehog. I hope they like their new names and will be very happy in their new home. They are very welcome to live in my garden as long as they like.
